House Resolution 187

Resolution: Recognizing May 10, 2025, as "National Train Day" in Pennsylvania

March 3, 2025 10:55 AM to All House Members

Circulated By: Representative Robert Matzie, House District 16

Memo:

“National Train Day” was first established in 2008 to educate the public about the rich history of our nation’s trains and the advantages of rail travel.  This observation is held annually on the Saturday closest to May 10th which is the day the nation’s first transcontinental railway was completed in 1869 in Promontory, Utah.  Since that time, the development of rail travel has revolutionized the Commonwealth, transforming Pennsylvania into an industrial powerhouse in the region and the country.

Now, more than ever, rail travel is an essential part of our transportation infrastructure, helping to reduce congestion on the roads and in the skies, connecting cities and rural communities, and providing a more environmentally-friendly mode of transportation that contributes to our energy security.  Therefore, please join me in supporting this legislation which recognizes the history and importance of railroads in this Commonwealth and country.
